Justice League x Halo

By Mateen Sharifi

With the arrival of the long-awaited release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, many images related to the film have been circling the Internet. One of these images is of the popular DC Comics villain Deathstroke, who played a minimal role in the film. The photo displays the character’s sword with a mysterious insignia placed upon it. While the emblem was originally cited as a reference to Ra’s al Ghul, another DC Comics villain, it was soon revealed by video game developer Christopher Barrett that the symbol was actually taken from the Halo video game series and, in fact, had nothing to do with Ra’s al Ghul. Based on the film’s $70 million budget, it is safe to assume that at least one crewmember knew how to use Google, and it is therefore evident that the Halo reference was intentional, as it would be virtually impossible for someone to accidentally make such a blatant mistake.

Furthermore, with Paramount’s upcoming Halo television series, the inclusion of the symbol in Snyder’s film leads to only one logical explanation: a DC Comics and Halo crossover.

The real name of Master Chief, the protagonist of the Halo series, has yet to be revealed, but throughout the series, he has been referred to as John-117 on numerous occasions. However, with the imminent DC Comics and Halo crossover, many theorists have looked towards the DC universe in an attempt to identify Master Chief. Thanks to the seemingly unrelated upcoming Nightwing film and the name John-117, many fans have returned to the comic Nightwing (Volume 2) 117 in search of clues. In doing so, they found that the issue contained none other than Deathstroke as its main antagonist. This connection of DC’s past comics, current and future movies, and Halo’s Master Chief indisputably proves that Master Chief is Deathstroke. Furthermore, Master Chief and Deathstroke are truly quite similar, as both are essentially just scientifically enhanced super-soldiers. Such a similarity only goes to further prove that Deathstroke is Master Chief, patiently waiting in the DC Universe to make his appearance. Although speculations are high, so are hopes for what very well may be the crossover of a lifetime.
